Wow, what a documentary. My heart went out to the children, who not only were hurt emotionally and physically, but saw their parents suffering from the effects of being a part of the Pastor’s cult.

Are you trying to be funny, Blue Grass?
Congrats on giving up the ciggies, that’s a great thing to do.
As far as Zoloft goes, DO NOT give it up suddenly. Speak to your Dr first about it. If you really want to go off it, then do it slowly. Zoloft is a drug that needs to be respected.

If your current gf is having commitment issues, then don’t buy that ring.
And presenting her with a ring wouldn’t be the best way to “keep” her – what if she’s emotionally swayed by the ring, but 6 mths, or 6 yrs, from now, the same commitment issues are still coming up?
And if you’re considering going back to old gf…. Makes me go hmmmm…
Slow down with current gf. Her commitment issues are a red flag. Just sayin’.

Before there was internet banking
by MsDucky inhow did you pay your bills?
did you sit down at your desk and write out a check for each bill?
did you call the bill company and make a payment?.

Broken Promises
Yes, back in the good ole days I used to write cheques to pay for things. Or just used cash.
I use cash now for everything. I don’t use credit cards.
I have bought items through ebay, but I prefer to buy things like clothes in person, so I can try them on etc. How many times does something look ok on the hanger, but you try it on and the cut is wrong, or is too tight or too loose?

Not preaching semi okay?
by techdotcom inso i havn't gone out in field service in something like 10 years.
doesn't it seem wierd that for a religion and organization that stresses the importance of 'preaching the good news', that not doing so seems so low on the discipline list?
seriously you can miss a couple of meetings and someone will probably feel you out to see if something (spirital or physical) is wrong.

If you haven’t gone out in service for 10 years, the elders have probably given up on you, LOL.

JWs Worship of GB vs exJWs worship of Ray Franz
by Broken Promises inas jws, we would have seen the adolation the governing body received.
even as far away as australia, we thought and spoke of them with reverence.
after all, they were figuratively at gods right hand, with the prospect of one day being in heaven with him.

As JWs, we would have seen the adolation the Governing Body received. Even as far away as Australia, we thought and spoke of them with reverence. After all, they were figuratively at God’s right hand, with the prospect of one day being in heaven with Him. They were Somebody when we were relative nobodies. They represented the Organisation. They live in luxury without the same worries we have – no utilities bills, no cars to worry about, no need to go grocery shopping every week, no job worries, etc etc.
Some have accused exJWs of worshiping Ray Franz, but it is not worship, but respect. We respect what he had to do in the name of doing what was right. He gave away the adoration and worship of millions around the world, in order to follow his conscience.
I doubt he ever thought he would become a world-wide name. He was a writer, so he did what he could do best – write a book (then another one) about his experiences. Maybe he thought the books would help a couple of hundred, maybe a few thousand at best. I don’t think he ever imagined how the internet would bring together hundreds of thousands of exJWs together, let alone the impact his books would have on these people.
He never asked for worship. He didn’t have a group following. In all the years I’ve been an exJW, he’s come across as a very quiet, sincere man who didn’t want the limelight.
JWs worshiped the Governing Body because of who they were.
ExJWs respect Ray Franz because of what he did.
Huge difference.

jw sheperding calls
by Borgdrone inrecently i have been approached by an elder and asked if i could get going again in the door to door preaching activity due to not having any time in for three months.
i told him it was due to health reasons, etc.
now it seems i am due for a sheperding call in the very near future.
-
Broken Promises
This is what I did:
When approached about a shepherding call, I firmly but politely stated that I was very busy, but would call them back when it was more convenient to meet with them.
Then just don’t call them back.

Ray Franz has had a stroke
by coffee_black injust setting the record straight.
there is another thread that notes a claim on wiki that said that ray has died.. he had a stroke yesterday, and is in the hospital.
he is still alive.
-
Broken Promises
If and when Ray dies, at least he will be able to die with a good conscience.
The leaders of the WTS do not have that luxury.
I’m sure Cynthia is receiving the love and support she needs.
